Plac Bohaterow Getta
About
Plac Bohaterów Getta, located in the Podgórze district of Kraków, is one of the city’s most historically resonant squares. It once served as a central hub of the Kraków Ghetto during the Nazi occupation when Jewish residents were forced to live and work in the area. Today, the square has been transformed into a poignant memorial site where the memory of those who suffered is honored in a field of 70 bronze chairs arranged in a semicircle. Adjacent to the square stands the Museum of the Kraków Ghetto Pharmacy, located at 18 Plac Bohaterów Getta, which preserves the story of the Eagle Pharmacy and the resistance activities that took place there. Visitors are greeted with striking historical artifacts, documentation, and interactive exhibits that illuminate the daily life and struggle within the ghetto. The square itself remains a public space, open year‑round, and is often the backdrop for cultural events and commemorations, especially during late spring and early autumn when Kraków hosts a series of solemn remembrance ceremonies.
