Planty Park
About
Planty Park, often called the "Green Belt," is a historic urban park that circles Kraków’s Old Town. Enclosed by the remnants of the city’s medieval walls, the 21‑hectare (52‑acre) park stretches approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) and was established in the 1820s to replace the dismantled fortifications. Visitors wander along a continuous loop of ornamental gardens, where they encounter statues and monuments of celebrated Polish figures—Nicolaus Copernicus, Jan Matejko, Queen Jadwiga, and King Władysław II Jagiello, among others. The mature trees and calm pathways provide a natural reprieve amid Kraków’s bustling streets, making the park a favorite spot for families, history lovers, and those seeking a peaceful stroll through the city’s cultural heart.
