Stare Zoo Poznan
About
The Poznań Zoo complex, comprising the historic Stare Zoo (Old Zoo) founded in 1874 and the modern New Zoo opened in 1974, is one of Poland’s most beloved wildlife destinations. The Old Zoo, located at Zwierzyniecka 19, showcases a blend of traditional and contemporary exhibits, preserving the charm of early‑20th‑century enclosures while housing beloved species such as the iconic elephant Kinga and the spectacular giraffe enclosure. The New Zoo, situated on the outskirts of the city, offers sprawling, naturalistic habitats that bring the savanna, the forest, and the Arctic to life in awe‑inspiring settings. Guests can explore over 3,300 animals spanning 368 species, from endangered elephants to playful orangutans and majestic lions. The complex also features an interactive Museum of Zoo History, an Animal Learning Centre, and seasonal exhibitions that bring education and conservation to the forefront of the visitor experience. With year‑round operations, the zoo provides free access to the historic Stare Zoo for all ages, while the New Zoo’s admission is ticketed. Whether you’re a family discovering the wonders of wildlife, an educator planning a field trip, or a history enthusiast eager to learn about a cultural landmark that survived the passage of time, the Poznań Zoo offers a memorable day of discovery, learning, and adventure.
