PKP Intercity
About
PKP Intercity is Poland’s flagship long‑distance rail operator, offering a network that spans the entire country and extends into several European neighbours. Founded in 2001 as a spin‑off from the national rail operator PKP, the company runs approximately 350 daily departures that connect the major cities of Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław and others, as well as smaller towns across the country. The fleet is an impressive mix of modern high‑speed and conventional units, including the world‑class Pendolino ED250 locomotives capable of 250 km/h, the Pesa Dart and Stadler FLIRT multiple units, and a variety of locomotive‑hauled trains. PKP Intercity operates under several service brands – Express InterCity Premium (EIP), Express InterCity (EIC), InterCity (IC) and the budget TLK line – each catering to different customer segments. All services feature a comfortable seating layout, most equipped with onboard snacks and air conditioning, and obligate reservation for EIP, EIC and inter‑regional routes. International services, such as EuroCity (EC) and EuroNight (EN), provide high‑standard high‑speed and night‑train travel to neighbouring countries. Beyond transportation, PKP Intercity is an important part of Poland’s economic infrastructure. The company has secured major contracts for new rolling stock, continually modernising the fleet with state‑of‑the‑art trains and maintenance facilities. As one of the largest passenger carriers in Poland, it plays a key role in connecting business centres, tourist destinations and regional hubs, making rail travel a convenient and reliable choice for passengers of all ages. Overall, PKP Intercity offers a blend of speed, comfort and extensive coverage, positioning it as a top destination for travellers across Poland and Europe who prefer efficient, modern rail transit.
