About
The Little Insurrectionist is a bronze statue commemorating the child soldiers who fought and died during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Erected on Podwale Street in Warsaw’s Old Town, the statue portrays a young boy wearing a German‑captured helmet and holding a submachine gun, a stark reminder of the resilience of the Resistance. Although not depicting a specific child, the monument stands as a universal tribute to the bravery of all Warsaw children who joined the fight. The plaque behind the statue bears the poignant words of the song «Warszawskie dzieci», symbolising the collective sacrifice of the city’s youth.
