Viewing Terrace
About
The Palace of Culture and Science – commonly called the "Pekin" – dominates Warsaw’s skyline at 237 m, making it the tallest building in Poland and one of the tallest in the European Union. Completed in 1955 as a Soviet‑modeste gift, the granite‑clad, Stalinist‑style tower houses a flourishing cultural complex that includes theatres, concert halls, a cinema, museums and a public swimming pool. Perched on the 30th floor is the observation deck, a 30‑metre‑high platform that offers 360° panoramic views of the city. From there, the Royal Castle, the Vistula River, the modern skyscrapers of the City Centre and the historic Old Town come into clear sight. The deck is protected by a glass balcony and features informational panels that explain key landmarks in the surrounding skyline. The palace is a cultural hub: the Museum of Evolution and the Museum of Technology are within its walls, as are two major theatres – the Studio and the Dramatyczny. Visitors can explore free exhibitions, attend programme concerts or simply enjoy the architectural grandeur that makes the Palace a must‑visit landmark for anyone travelling to Warsaw. Whether you’re a history buff, an architecture enthusiast or simply want to see the city from a soaring height, the viewing terrace is an accessible, memorable experience that reflects Warsaw’s past and present.
