Japanese Garden - Szczytnicki Park
About
Nestled within Wrocław’s expansive Szczytnicki Park, the Japanese Garden (Ogród Japoński) invites visitors to a tranquil enclave of East‑Asian design. Established between 1909 and 1913 by orientalist Baron Fritz von Hochberg and brought to life by Japanese gardener Arai Mankichi, the garden showcases around 270 woody taxa, 78 Asian plant species—including 38 native to Japan—arranged in classic Japanese layouts of ponds, stone lanterns and meticulously pruned shrubbery. A major renovation in the mid‑1990s, led by Professor Ikuya Nishikawa and the Japanese embassy, restored its original ambience after the 1997 Central European flood, with a grand reopening in 1999. Off‑season relaxation and family strolls are ideal, and the garden remains a testament to cultural exchange between Poland and Japan.
