About

Temporarily Closed - The Image Museum is a cultural space in Braga dedicated to Photography. Braga’s municipality has the guardianship of the museum, which opened its doors on April 25, 1999. It is located in Campo das Hortas, next to Arco da Porta Nova, on a building restored by Architect Sergio Borges and that hides a building from the XIX century and a tower of the XIV century, part of the town’s old Medieval Wall. Its mission is to collect and promote Braga and its surroundings visual memory, as well as to preserve its historical archive, consisting of over 200 000 pictures that belong to two iconic houses of Braga photography: Foto Alianca and Casa Pelicano. All over the year it displays contemporary photography exhibitions, as well as exhibitions to broadcast its historical archive. A show of cameras from different periods is in permanent display, as well as a library filled with image related books, magazine and catalogues. Come and visit us, because an image is worth more than...
