Parque de Santa Catarina
About
Parque de Santa Catarina, located in the heart of Funchal on Madeira’s southern coast, is one of the island’s largest and most beloved green spaces, covering 36,000 square metres of lush lawns, winding paths, and ornamental gardens. The park’s centerpiece is the Capela de Santa Catarina, an 18‑th‑century chapel that offers a glimpse into the island’s religious heritage. A tranquil artificial lake creates a natural habitat for ducks and other water‑birds, while a network of aviaries houses colorful parrots, toucans and other tropical species. Visitors can stroll along scenic promenades overlooking the bay, admire local sculptures and pastel‑coloured street murals, and relax in expanses of shade and picnic spots. With free admission and open all year, the park is especially appealing during the summer months when the weather is warm and the sea breeze is invigorating.
