National Museum of Natural History and Science
About
The National Museum of Natural History and Science of Lisbon, situated on Rua da Escola Politécnica, is Portugal’s premier institution dedicated to the study and display of the natural world. With a legacy that spans more than 250 years, the museum showcases extensive collections in zoology, anthropology, geology, and botany, including artifacts from the Royal Natural Cabinet and the historic Botanical Gardens. Integrated with the University of Lisbon, the museum hosts scientific exhibitions, conferences, debates, workshops, and courses that encourage public engagement in natural history and scientific literacy. The museum’s historic building, once part of the Polytechnic School, has been expanded to include the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory and spacious galleries that allow visitors to explore the evolution of life on Earth.
