Casa da Galeria – Azores Art of Hosting offers tourist accommodation with an innovative concept of hospitality, focused on the fruition of contemporary art. The ‘Casa’ is the result of the considered and contemporary re-appropriation of a 19th-century property in the historical centre, 450 m from the Portas da Cidade, 50 m from the Carlos Machado Museum, 900 m from the Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres shrine and the same distance from the Portas do Mar Natural Swimming Pool. We are part of ‘O Quarteirão’, a creative and artistic neighbourhood of our town, an intangible concept created by established cultural organisations and businesses in the local area and a must-see for anyone visiting the island. We have 9 apartments available, formulated with your comfort in mind, with two types - five T1 (1 bedroom) and four T0 (studio), equipped with kitchenette, living/dining room, air conditioning, Smart TV, king-size beds, desk and free Wi-Fi, among other facilities. The bathrooms are equipped with shower, free RITUALS toiletries, hair dryer and extra towels for the beach. The contemporary decoration demonstrates the very best of Portuguese furniture design and manufacture, and the original artworks are curated by Fonseca Macedo – Contemporary Art. The accommodation units are complemented by amenities including a heated outdoor pool, solarium, sauna, steam room and gym. Guests’ electric cars can be charged for free at the 2 charging stations available in our private car park. We would also like to draw attention to the exhibition area, under the artistic direction of Fonseca Macedo – Contemporary Art, which, with periodic displays of its exhibitions, ensures that our guests’ visits are always different. Our breakfasts, prepared using homemade and regional products, can be enjoyed in the comfort and peace of the private dining area in each of the apartments. The tourist attractions that are not in the city centre can be found just a short and pleasant drive away along the island’s verdant roads, with highlights including the pineapple greenhouses (4 km), the Sete Cidades massif with its numerous lakes (19 km), the Ferraria thermal baths (25 km), Lagoa do Fogo volcanic lake (21 km), Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, Ribeira Grande (17 km), the islet of Vila Franca and the Queijadas da Vila factory (26 km), the Fábrica da Gorreana tea plantation (31 km), Lagoa das Furnas crater lake and Rosa Quental's ‘Bolos Lêvedos’ (Portuguese muffins) factory (44 km), not forgetting the flower-filled county of Nordeste (59 km).
