The Church of Santa Clara, located in Porto’s historic centre, is a fine example of Gothic architecture that was later enriched with Baroque and Renaissance details. Construction began in 1416 and the convent was completed in 1457, and the interior is notable for its gold‑plated paneling and colourful polychrome decorations. The church was declared a National Monument in 1910 and became part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1996, underlining its cultural importance. Visitors can explore the beautiful interior during the daily opening hours of 09:00‑13:00 and 14:00‑18:00, Monday through Sunday. Admission costs €4 for adults, is free for children under 10 years, and groups of more than ten can purchase a group ticket for €3. Guided tours are available but must be booked in advance. Mass services are celebrated on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 18:00 with visitors welcomed to attend. The church’s proximity to other historic landmarks makes it a convenient stop on a cultural walk through Porto’s Ribeira and historic quarter.
