Parque Natural da Arrabida
About
Parque Natural da Arrábida is a protected landscape situated in the Setúbal Peninsula, covering 176.41 km² of diverse coastal and mountainous terrain. The park’s unique limestone geology, with its carbonate cliffs and rolling hills, creates dramatic sea views and a distinctive Mediterranean ecosystem that supports a rich assortment of flora and fauna, including endemic plant species and nesting seabirds. Visitors are invited to explore a variety of attractions, from the serene beaches of Galapinhos, Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha to the historic Convent of Our Lady of Arrábida, a former monastery transformed into a cultural hub. Hiking trails weave through cork oak forests and sandy coves, offering panoramic vistas of the Atlantic and the hidden grottoes that dot the landscape. With an average weekly attendance of over 23,000 people, the park is easily accessible to families, nature lovers, bird watchers and hikers seeking a respite from urban life while enjoying Portugal’s natural beauty without the crowds typical of other coastal destinations.
