Cafe Imperio is owned by the Ferreira family, (from the oldest families in the Douro). Cafe Imperio has been in the family for more than 7 decades and already has the 5th generation. It was the first cafe in the Alto Douro wine region. Joao Augusto Ferreira, a man of great strength and creativity, was the driving force and president of the first Alto Douro Farmers' Association. Inside the Cafe Imperio he built a cave out of a stone, to do his tasting of Port wine with his private harvests, giving the name "Cafe Imperio-Birthplace of Port Wine".Today this wine cellar has been extended, allowing many Douro farmers to be able to show and publicize their product with magnificent wine tasting. Abbreviated in the language of many by "The Empire" is today an icon of the Region. Located in front of the Pinhao train station, considered a World Heritage Site, "Imperio" is the must-see spot for anyone visiting Vila do Pinhao, whether for the blink of an eye and the love of their unique and eter
