Morgadio da Calcada
About
Morgadio da Calcada offers 8 rooms to its guests. They are located in the old stables and agricultural storage sheds, recovered by traditional methods, but in a contemporary approach. Contrasting with the seventeenth century's old Manor, these rooms present every comfort the most demanding client would expect to find: air conditioning, television, sophisticated bathrooms and the best Portuguese materials. In spite of their modernity, they still keep the charm of ancient rural buildings. They are spread through several patios which provide privacy for each guest. The visitors also have at their disposal the recovered old kitchen, which was once used by the farm workers, set with fireplace and coverlets for the winter and completely opened out to the patios in the summer, offering overwhelming views of the vines that are used for the production of Morgadio da Calcada's wines and making them completely forget about life in the city. Outside, big trees shelter a bench or some chairs that invite to reading while enjoying a glass of wine, refreshments or a cup of tea. In the swimming pool, built amongst the ruins of one of the old farm's warehouses, visitors will find refuge from the long hot summer days in a stunning place. Last, but not the least, we get to the flavors. Meals are prepared with freshly picked products from the vegetable-garden, port wine vinegars, local olive oil... These ingredients will take our guests on a trip through the extraordinary Douro gastronomy and savor the old recipes of former Casa da Calcada's cooks. To lengthen the unique feeling of having truly relaxed during their stay, guests are invited to buy local products and take them home: Morgadio da Calcada wines, compotes, bee wax candles and the exclusive port wine soaps manufactured with an old recipe found in the Casa da Calcada's archive.
