About

Carol Park – officially known as Parcul Carol – is Bucharest’s largest and most historic green space, covering 36 hectares on Filaret Hill. Designed by French landscape artist Édouard Redont in 1900 and opened in 1906, the park blends manicured gardens, lush lawns, and winding paths with a wealth of cultural landmarks. Visitors wander past the majestic Cantacuzino Fountain, the shimmering Giant statues, and the evocative Zodiac fountain, while leisurely exploring the park’s many greenhouses, playgrounds, and lakes. A highlight of Carol Park is the imposing Mausoleum of the Romanian Heroes, whose black‑granite arches and golden mosaic ceiling commemorate national sacrifice. The park also houses the first Romanian technical museum – the Dimitrie Leonida Technical Museum – where interactive exhibits illustrate the country’s industrial heritage. The open‑air Roman Arena (Arenele Romane) offers a unique glimpse into ancient theater architecture, and the tranquil Lake Filaret provides a serene spot for picnics or boat rides. With its blend of natural beauty and historical monuments, Carol Park is a popular weekend destination for families, history lovers, and anyone looking to escape the bustle of downtown Bucharest. The park’s well‑maintained walking trails, playgrounds, and cultural sites make it an ideal spot for a relaxed day out, whether you’re a first‑time visitor or a long‑time local.
