Muzeul Astra
About
The ASTRA National Museum Complex in Sibiu is a sprawling open‑air museum that showcases more than 400 traditional houses, workshops and community buildings, offering a living snapshot of rural Romanian life from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors wander along its 10 km of wooden pathways, standing in reconstructed barns, windmills, stables and even a wooden church, each carefully preserved to illustrate everyday activities such as spinning, weaving, winemaking and blacksmithing. The complex also hosts permanent exhibitions in the city, including the Franz Binder Museum of Universal Ethnography and the Emil Sigerus Museum of Saxon Ethnography. Beyond the exhibits, the site features seasonal festivals, guided tours, a modern café, an annual membership program, and a virtual tour that allows remote visitors to explore the museum’s highlights from home. Whether you’re a history buff, a family with children, or a curious traveler, ASTRA offers an immersive journey through Transylvania’s cultural heritage.
