Because of the numerous and rich German citizens there was a strong need of Lutheran/ evangelical church in this Catholic area. With respect to a tolerance letters patent of Joseph II., evangelical churches were not allowed to have towers and stand out of the line of other houses. Stiavnica´s evangelical church built in late 18th century keeps the rules but overcomes it with its majestic copula and elliptic theatre-like design with three-storey galleries.
