Tower of Hercules
About
The Tower of Hercules, perched on the rocky coast of A Coruña, is the world’s oldest continuously operating lighthouse, dating back to the Roman era around AD 98–117. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it guides ships with a white light visible up to 23 nautical miles and has stood as a beacon for maritime travellers for almost two millennia. Visitors can admire the tower’s impressive Roman architecture, explore its interior spiral staircase and lantern room, and learn about its evolution through the Centro de Interpretación (CIAV). Mondays are free‑entry days, offering a great chance to visit without a ticket, while regular admission starts at €3.09, with reduced rates for children, students, seniors, and students of international origin, and a special €1.55 rate for select groups. The surrounding Sculpture Park and the town’s historical streets make the site a must‑see for history enthusiasts, families, and solo travellers alike. With its combination of ancient engineering, cultural significance and panoramic sea views, the Tower of Hercules continues to inspire visitors and remains an iconic symbol of Galicia’s maritime heritage.
