About

Viejo Molino Cela is a 17th century watermill that until halfway through the XIXth Century worked with two wheels: for grain and for linseed oil. In 1850, it was transformed and established in to one of the first banks of the province. Witnesses of this activity are the different compartments and hiding places that can still be found in floors and ceilings. The chronicles of Leon say that money of the autonomous government of the region was kept here during some of the political changes of the XIX Century. After six years of reconstruccion of the place, the Viejo Molino Cela has been rehabilitated into a country house hotel, with a nostalgic philosophy of the romantic period, and with a very creative and particular spirit. Its alteration maintains the maximum fidelity to the original building, using traditional materiales from the area (stone, clay, straw, cane, plaster and wood) and ancient techniques. A place for relaxation and distraction surrounded totally by wild vegetation and rivers. Antique furniture and some ethnic elements are distributed throughout the hall, the library and the rooms, overlooking the river. Water encloses the property, and the abundant riverbed vegetation that has been kept over decades in its natural state. At night the sky is clean and one can observe the constellations with total clarity.
