Barcelona Zoo
About
Barcelona Zoo, situated in the historic Parc de la Ciutadella, opened in 1892 and has grown into a premier destination for wildlife conservation and education. The 13‑hectare park hosts some 1,300 animals from every continent, including the world‑famous albino gorilla Snowflake (1933‑2003) and the recently inaugurated Sahel Savannah complex, which houses giraffes, lions and elephants in a naturalistic setting. Modern renovations have transformed classic enclosures into immersive, habitat‑based exhibits such as the expansive Aviarium and the playful Marmoset Gallery, offering visitors close encounters and interactive learning. Whether watching the diverse avian collection, the marine mammals in the aquatic shows, or learning about ongoing conservation projects, the zoo delivers a family‑friendly experience that balances entertainment with a strong commitment to animal welfare and environmental stewardship.
