Museu d'Historia de Barcelona - MUHBA
About
Museu d'Historia de Barcelona – MUHBA – is the city’s premier archaeological museum, hidden beneath Barcelona’s medieval square, Plaça del Rei. It offers visitors an underground journey through the city’s history, from prehistoric settlements and the Roman villa kingdom of Barcino to the medieval Palau Major and modern-day Barcelona. The museum’s seven thematic galleries – featuring the collections centre, the archaeological archive, the prehistoric and medieval rooms, the Roman walls and forts, the public works displays, and contemporary art spaces – are arranged around the central Pavilion of the old mint, creating a seamless narrative of the city’s evolution. Guests can choose self‑guided walkways or guided tours, and the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, family‑friendly activities, workshops and educational programs. Accessible to all ages, the museum provides multilingual information services and audio guides to enhance the visitor experience.
