Parque Maritimo del Mediterraneo
About
Parque Marítimo del Mediterráneo, created in 1995 by César Manrique, is a 55 000‑m² oasis in the heart of Ceuta that blends the artist’s signature organic architecture with the Mediterranean sea. Its three salt‑water lakes, terraced gardens, cascading waterfalls and sun‑bathing courts give visitors a seaside escape in the city’s centre. The park also hosts a casino, bars, restaurants, a stage for concerts and a permanent exhibition dedicated to its creator, creating a lively entertainment hub for families, nature lovers and casual diners alike. Guests wander through landscaped gardens home to more than 1,000 plant species from all five continents, including palms, cacti and the famed Canary dragoon tree. The layout mimics Manrique’s work in Tenerife, with volcanic stone facades recreating Ceuta’s Royal Walls. The park offers swimming and boating in the lakes during summer, while shaded patios provide a safe walk for older visitors and children. The exhibition hall displays Manrique’s own pieces and offers guided tours that deepen the artistic narrative. From sunrise to sunset, the park’s vibrant nightlife turns into a culinary promenade featuring venues such as Casino Ceuta, Telepizza, Botánico, Bahía Club and La Barraca, each offering a distinct atmosphere—from classic Spanish tapas to Mediterranean fusion. The large open spaces also host festivals, concerts and community events, such as the recent 30th‑anniversary celebrations, making it a cultural beacon for Ceuta’s locals and visitors alike.
