Palacio del Virrey Laserna
About
The Palace of Viceroy Laserna, also known as the Palace of the Counts of the Andes, stands majestically in the historic centre of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Rooted in an 11th‑century Arab palace, its façade was refashioned in the 18th‑century neoclassical style that now defines its stately presence, while the interior boasts traces of earlier Andalusian craftsmanship. Built and maintained by the same noble family since the 13th‑century reconquest of Jerez, the palace has housed several generations of Spanish aristocracy, including José de la Serna y Martínez de Hinojosa, the first Count of the Andes and the last Viceroy of Peru. The building was fully restored and opened to the public in April 2015, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the life of 18th‑century Andalusic elites. Inside, the palace showcases a collection of fine art and decorative objects that reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage. The elegant gardens, once the site of a 17th‑century corral de comedias, and an annexed building that now functions as a small boutique hotel, can be explored on guided tours. The experience blends captivating architecture, historically significant artifacts, and the charm of an enduring family residence—an unforgettable destination for history enthusiasts and cultural travelers alike.
