Las Navas de Tolosa Battle Museum, located in Despenaperros as we enter Jaen County (in Santa Elena municipality, beside the Andalusian highway) evokes that significant conflict and presents the fascinating Castles and Battles Tour. Jaen County Council has inaugurated a new exhibition centre situated in the battlefield where that distant Monday, 16th July, 1212,confronted Christian troops, headed by Alfonso the 8th of Castile, against the Almohade squadron of the Caliph al-Nasir. The museum invites the visitor to know about the multicultural debate and the dialogue among civilizations. All presented in a critical approach about the actual conflicts and as a small contribution to the culture of peace. In its rooms is exhibited every aspect which surrounds that significant conflict, using modern audiovisual mediums and diverse scenographies: every convoy of contingents, both base camps and reproductions of weapons and clothes, everything rigorously narrated.
