About

La Ruta del Cares, also known as the Cares Trail, winds along the majestic Cares River gorge between Asturias and León in Spain’s Picos de Europa National Park. Spanning roughly 11 kilometres, the trail is carved into limestone cliffs and offers hikers a dramatic journey through the “Divine Gorge,” marked by towering rock faces, natural caves, and historic stone bridges. Its moderate slope and well‑trodden path make it one of the most popular treks in the park, attracting around 300,000 visitors each year. The route starts in the Asturian village of Puente Poncebos and ends in Posada de Valdeón, providing spectacular vistas and a firsthand encounter with the raw beauty of the Cantabrian Mountains.
