Los Cubos de la Memoria is a striking contemporary art installation that adorns the harbor of Llanes, Asturias. Created by Basque artist Agustín Ibarrola, the work transforms an otherwise plain concrete structure into a vibrant tapestry of colors and shapes, celebrating the memory of art, the artist, and the region itself. The installation, which began in 2001 and finished its final phase in 2003, covers a series of 66 large cubes placed on the northern quay, each weighing 60 tonnes. As visitors stroll along the promenade, they can pause to reflect on the museum–in–the–open‑air concept, taking in the evolving murals against a backdrop of the Cantabrian Sea. The site welcomes travelers of all ages, offering an immersive cultural experience that invites contemplation, conversation, and a taste of local identity.
