About

Picos de Europa, the “Peaks of Europe,” is a striking mountain range that stretches roughly 20 km (12 mi) across the northern Spanish provinces of Asturias, Cantabria and Castile and León. With an area of 646 km² (249 sq mi) and limestone karst landscapes carved by glacial and river erosion, the range hosts three major massifs—Central (Urrieles), Eastern (Ándara) and Western (Picos de Cornión). The highest summit, Torre de Cerredo, rises to 2,650 m (8,690 ft) above sea level and offers panoramic views of the neighboring valleys. The park is famed for its dramatic Cares Gorge, the challenging Naranjo de Bulnes (Picu Urriellu) climbing icon, and a network of well‑trodden mountain refuges that attract hikers, climbers and nature enthusiasts year‑round.
