Playa de El Medano
About
Playa de El Médano is a long, sandy beach on the southern coast of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. Known for its consistent trade winds, it has earned a reputation as one of the world’s best destinations for windsurfing and kitesurfing, offering three distinct surf spots – the Bay (flat/swell), the Harbour Wall (wavespot on the sideshore), and Cabezo Beach (onshore waves). The beach stretches roughly 750 meters and is dotted with facilities such as changing rooms, showers, and a boardwalk that guides visitors along the shoreline to nearby bars, restaurants and the town square. Playa de El Médano also hosts local festivals, especially in summer, and an annual fireworks display along the bay. Adjacent to the beach are the larger Playa Grande and Playa La Tejita, and the volcanic cone La Montaña Reda, a protected natural reserve, which add to the area’s natural beauty. While the beach itself is free to access, visitors can enjoy a relaxed, seaside atmosphere that mixes adventure sports with laid‑back beach vibes.
