Stupa of Enlightenment Benalmadena
About
The Benalmádena Stupa, also known as the Enlightenment Stupa, stands tall on a bluff overlooking the Costa del Sol, offering panoramic views of Málaga and the sparkling Mediterranean. At 33 metres (108 ft) in height, it is the tallest stupa in Europe and a striking landmark of modern Buddhist architecture. Designed by architect Woitek Kossowski and built under the guidance of Tibetan lama Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche, the monument houses a 100 m² meditation hall and an exhibition space showcasing Tibetan Buddhist art, textiles, and cultural artefacts. Visitors can stroll through the landscaped gardens, meditate in the serene pavilion, or explore the richly painted walls that portray the life story of Buddha Sakyamuni. Open to all, the stupa embodies a place of peace, reflection, and cultural exchange, drawing both spiritual seekers and casual tourists alike.
