About
Castle of the Dukes of Frias (Castillo de los Duques de Frías) stands majestically above the town of Frias in Burgos, Spain. Built in stages between the 12th and 15th centuries, the fortress blends Romanesque solidity with Gothic elegance, boasting thick stone walls, crenellated battlements, and a commanding keep that offers sweeping views of the Tobalina valley. Historically the seat of the influential Velasco family, the castle played a pivotal role in the Christian reconquest of northern Spain. Today it welcomes visitors with guided tours through its well‑preserved chambers, defensive towers, and richly decorated halls, allowing guests to experience the grandeur of Spanish medieval nobility.
