Plaza del Coso
About
The Plaza del Coso, located in the heart of Peñafiel in Valladolid province, is a historic urban square that dates back to the Middle Ages. Its 3,500 square metres are framed by wooden balconies adorned with arabesque detailing, offering a charming backdrop for locals and tourists alike. Even today, the plaza remains a living cultural hub: during August’s Festival of San Roque it transforms into a grand bullring for traditional corrida, and on Resurrection Sunday the revered Descent of the Angel festival takes place, drawing crowds for prayer, music, and communal celebration. Beyond the seasonal bustle, the spring and autumn months provide a pleasant climate for strolling between the 48 surrounding buildings. Visitors can marvel at the panoramic view of the imposing Peñafiel Castle that looms behind the plaza, and explore the historic balconies that echo with centuries of architectural heritage.
