About
Castillo de los Templarios is a 12th‑century Templar fortress in Ponferrada, Spain, sprawling over 16,000 square metres of medieval stone and ramparts. Originally granted to the Knights Templar by King Ferdinand II in 1178, the castle played a key role in protecting pilgrims on the Way of St. James until the order’s dissolution in 1311. Today it offers visitors a glimpse into the region’s rich history and a dramatic view of the surrounding Sil Valley, making it a must‑visit landmark for history enthusiasts and architecture lovers alike.
