Jardin Botanico del Palmetum
About
The Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a sprawling 12‑hectare botanical garden that occupies a former landfill atop a scenic hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Specialising entirely in palms, it hosts more than 600 species, including rare and endangered varieties from every part of the world. The garden’s design follows a biogeographical layout, with themed sections such as the Caribbean, Madagascar, and the Canary Islands, each featuring themed plantings, waterways, and waterfalls. Visitors wander through winding paths, interactive displays, and a cocoa‑shaded canopy, guided by at least 30 m² of educational signage. An underground Palm Museum, a 2,300 m² shade house referred to as “El Octógono”, and multiple manicured streams create a serene, immersive experience that blends botanical science with ecological sustainability. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Palmetum offers free admission, making it a perfect destination for families, nature lovers, and horticulture enthusiasts alike.
