Cueva de Nerja is a world‑class limestone cave located near the town of Nerja in southern Spain. Covering almost 5 km of horizontal passage and more than 35 000 m², it showcases spectacular stalactites, stalagmites, columns and mushroom formations that have formed over five million years. Visitors enter through the “Mina” – a natural entrance – and walk 546 m of passage on 458 steps, exploring the main tourist galleries such as the Vestibule, Christ, Cascada, Fantasmas and Cataclismo. An audio‑guided tour in multiple languages (Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Russian) lasts about 60 minutes, followed by a 20‑minute VR‑room experience that recreates the cave’s most inaccessible areas and prehistoric art. In addition to the underground adventure, the surrounding grounds feature lush botanical gardens, a picnic area, a playground and a paved trail leading to the nearby Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama. Seasonal concerts and festivals are hosted in the amphitheatre‑style chamber, making the cave a cultural hub for both locals and tourists. Guests experience a fully integrated virtual reality session as part of their entrance ticket, except for those entering under the free‑entry program. Free admission is offered to the accompanying museum, which showcases additional artifacts and reconstructions of the cave’s rock art. The cave is open year‑round with regular hours of 9:30 am to 4:30 pm (extended to 5:30 pm or 7:00 pm during peak‑season periods). It is recommended to book in advance, especially during busy periods, via the official booking portal. The site also offers guided tours for school groups, family visits and special events, all aimed at preserving the cave’s fragile ecosystem while inviting the public to explore its natural and cultural heritage.
