Cabanes als Arbres
About
Sleep perched in a treeAt the heart of the Sierra del Montseny, 84 km (52 miles) from Barcelona, you can rediscover your childhood dreams and live in a cabin in the treetops: the Cabanes als arbres are cabins hanging 10 m above the ground attached to thetrunks of robust Douglas firs. The site’s philosophy: “Our goal is to offer the pleasure of spending a night with a tree and its ecosystem, while teaching people about the importance of the environment.”The first two tree houses were inaugurated in July 2009, and today there are ten: six 2-person cabins and four 4-person cabins. Once checked in, you’re overcome by the feeling of living a childhood adventure. The cabins built in the trees of Montseny have no ground supports. “They are attached to the tree by several cables to divide the weight.” Entrance is by a suspended bridge or a ladder. All the cabins are made from wood (even the handles on the windows) and are built around the trunk. They are each 30 m2 with a terrace of 10 m2. The interior, through which the trunk passes vertically, is furnished with a double bed, sofa, table and chairs; there’s a “bathroom” area with jugs of water and a dry toilet. The real life of a twenty-first-century Robinson Crusoe comes with its ownchallenges. The tree houses have no electricity (Karin and Manu providecandles and torches) and no running water, but a short distance away atMas La Vileta, is the reception area where all amenities are located, includingshowers, toilets, a magnificent swimming pool and a restaurant.
