About

Ornässtugan is beautifully located on a peninsula in Lake Runn between Borlänge and Falun. The impressive building was built by a wealthy mine owner in the early 16th century. The location features a flavorful café and the world´s oldest museum, that still displays the same exhibition now as when it first opened in 1758. Ornässtugan has fascinated visitors for hundreds of years, who have come to admire its architecture and learn about the exciting story of King Gustav Vasa and how he had to escape the farm through the outhouse, with the help of the mine owner´s wife Barbro Stigsdotter. The museum can only be visited with a guide. In the architect-designed museum shop, there is also a café, an appreciated excursion destination in itself, where all pastries are baked on-site. Feel free to stroll around the area and enjoy the nature. In winter, plowed tracks on the natural ice around Ornässtugan attract many ice skaters. Opening hours can be found on the website of Ornässtugan.
