Karnan Museum
About
The Kärnan tower, standing 35 metres tall in the heart of Helsingborg, is the lone surviving vestige of a once-mighty Danish fortress that commanded the Öresund strait in the 14th century. Built in the 1310s, the tower has endured centuries of war, neglect and restoration, its crowning crenellations restored in the late 19th century to echo the original medieval design. Today visitors can climb a narrow, winding spiral staircase to a lookout platform that rewards them with sweeping views of the harbour, the Øresund, and the Danish town of Helsingør. Stepping into the tower feels like stepping back in time, with exposed stone walls and a palpable sense of historic grandeur. Whether you are a history buff, a family looking for a scenic adventure, or simply exploring Swedish heritage, Kärnan offers an immersive glimpse into the region’s medieval past.
