About

Denmark's only remaining circular ring kiln, which was put into use in 1870 and burned bricks for 97 years - until 1967. There are only very few others of the type abroad - three in Germany and one in Japan - we have found. When it was invented in Germany in 1859, it was revolutionary for brickworks operations worldwide and the method was used in Denmark until well into the 1960s, where it is today replaced by a so-called tunnel kiln. We also convey the story - the local from Niva's first brickyard in 1701 as well as the national one, where Denmark during industrialization ruled over approx. 1,000 brickworks of very varying size. On our opening Sundays, we also have the old coal-fired smithy staffed.
