History: At Grand Hotel you stay in an environment rich in cultural heritage from the 1800s that also has international history. In 1878 it was designed in the then popular Swiss chalet style and was among the most modern equipped rural hotels in West Sweden. During World War II, the Grand Hotel, which then went under the name Stadshotellet, assisted authorities and was a base for ball-bearing exports to the British war effort. When the boats were loaded in Lysekil sailors lived at the hotel and dared not go further than 600 meters from the hotel unless under police surveillance. Many have stayed at the Grand Hotel/Stadshotellet over the years, among them Marcus Wallenberg and his friend revue king Karl Gerhard.
