Skansen
About
Skansen is Sweden's oldest open‑air museum and zoo, founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius to showcase traditional Swedish life before the industrial era. Spread across 300,000 m² on Djurgården island, the site houses more than 150 historic buildings—farmhouses, manor houses and workshops—arranged as they would have appeared centuries ago for visitors to walk through a living‑history village. The park also hosts its own Nordic wildlife zoo, a Baltic Sea Science Center, and the Skansen Aquarium, offering hands‑on animal encounters and immersive exhibitions. Seasonal celebrations such as Midsummer, Christmas, Walpurgis Night, and regular folk dances fill the calendar, while guided tours, audio guides, cafés and a vibrant shop make a visit to Skansen a cultural, educational, and culinary adventure.
