Tekniska Museet
About
Tekniska museet, Sweden’s largest technology museum, traces the nation’s industrial journey from steam engines to space exploration. Founded in 1924 and housed in a 10‑000‑square‑meter modernist building on Djurgården, the museum boasts a collection of over 55,000 artifacts, 200,000 drawings and 800,000 images that chronicle Sweden’s technological evolution. Visitors wander through themed galleries that range from the early age of mechanical engineering to the cutting‑edge of space technology. The Space Exploration Hall displays Sweden’s satellites, rockets, and instruments, while the Machine Gallery showcases preserved steam engines, windlasses and early electric generators. Interactive exhibits—especially in the Science Lab—invite guests of all ages to experiment with physics, chemistry and engineering concepts. The museum is free to enter, making it a perfect destination for families, school groups and curious travelers. Its facilities are easily accessible by public transport (bus no. 69 to Museiparken) and the friendly staff offer educational programs and guided tours to enrich the experience.
