Uppsala University Coin Cabinet
About
Everybody is interested in money, in one way or another. Uppsala University Coin Cabinet is collecting and archiving objects that testify to the world's monetary systems, from the inception of coinage in the 7th century BC until today's digital currencies. The exhibition features a selection of the Coin Cabinet's more than 40,000 items. Themes are the University's history, the history of Sweden and the Upplands region. Since coins and medals are small objects, all topics can be covered in a single room. There is a barely dozen university coin collections in the world only, and Uppsala University Coin Cabinet is one of them. The Coin cabinet's main function is to support research and education at Uppsala University, but the latest research results are also presented for the general audience in connection with guided tours held during the public opening hours.
