ViaStockalper – The attraction of opposites Times were hard, the roads dangerous. Three centuries ago Kaspar Stockalper, the «King of the Simplon», seized the chance to improve the old mule track over the Simplon Pass, thereby laying the foundation of his huge trading empire. The contrasts of the ViaStockalper give it its special appeal: north of the pass it crosses the lonely Taferna valley, while to the south it goes through the wild Gondo gorge. And all along the way many of Stockalper's monumental buildings still stand.
