Fortress of Bellinzona
About
The Fortress of Bellinzona (Fortezza Bellinzona) is a medieval complex comprising three castles—Castel Grande, Monte Bello, and Sasso Corbaro—connected by a magnificent city wall and a public rampart. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, the fortifications stand as the only visible example of Alpine‑high medieval military architecture. Visitors can explore museums, exhibitions, and the historic courtyards, experiencing the rich cultural heritage of Ticino. Whether strolling its elevated terraces, attending a guided tour, or sampling local cuisine in the castle restaurants, the fortress offers panoramic views over the valley and a tangible link to centuries of Swiss history.
