Aareschlucht
About
The Aare Gorge (Aareschlucht) is a 1.4‑kilometre long, 200‑metre deep canyon nestled in the Haslital of the eastern Bernese Oberland. Shaped over thousands of years by the Aare Glacier, its towering limestone cliffs and turbulent river create a dramatic, natural spectacle that attracts visitors worldwide. A 45‑minute walking trail winds through wooden footbridges and basalt tunnels, offering intimate views of the turquoise Aare and striking rock formations. The cool, misty atmosphere proves especially refreshing on hot summer days, making it a beloved spot for nature lovers. Access to the gorge itself is free; free parking is available for both buses and cars at the entrance. The site operates from early April until 1 November, with a seasonal winter closure that will reopen on 3 April 2026.
