Opernhaus Zurich
About
The Zurich Opera House, a towering landmark at Sechseläutenplatz 1, blends historic grandeur with contemporary creativity. Since its opening in 1891, it has become the pulse of Zurich’s cultural scene, hosting over 300 performances each season—including opera, ballet, and symphonic concerts. The Neo‑Classical façade, a magnificent white‑stone frontage with sculptural busts of Weber, Wagner, and Mozart, welcomes visitors to an interior that boasts a richly ornamented auditorium seating about 1,100 guests. At the heart of the house lies the International Opera Studio, an elite training centre for young singers and instrumentalists that nurtures the next generation of performers. The opera house’s programming balances timeless masterpieces with bold new works, ensuring every visit is a memorable artistic journey.
