About

Craig-ma-Cair means "rock of the fort". Our House was named after the huge rock that obstructed the Stonehaven Harbour entrance centuries ago. The house was built in 1896 to accommodate the herring industry and was set up as dwelling rooms on the first and second floors and a general merchant's shop on the ground floor. Ray's family bought the house in 1951 and their background is fishing. There is a poem dedicated to her Dad (Johnny Watt) hanging in The Tolbooth Museum on the Old Pier and on the stairway at Craig-ma-Cair which gives you an indication of the character he was. Husband Raymond runs the Shell Hoosie on the ground floor and there you can treat yourself to a tasty ice cream and browse around the varied display of nautical giftware.
