Talyllyn Railway
About
The Talyllyn Railway is a living heritage steam line that has been running continuously since 1865. From Tywyn Wharf to the picturesque village of Abergynolwyn and the scenic Nant Gwernol, the 7.25‑mile route winds through the unspoilt Snowdonia countryside, offering visitors a nostalgic journey in original Victorian‑era rolling stock. The railway is more than a train ride – the Tywyn station hosts a charming narrow‑gauge museum, the Railway Shop and a king‑licensed café & bistro. All visitors can enjoy the museum, café and shop for free between 9 am and 3 pm, making it an ideal stop for families, history lovers or train enthusiasts. Special events, such as the Christmas Tinsel & Turkey Specials, the Carol Train and Santa Special rides, run year‑round and are available through the official booking system. Explorer ticket holders can hop on and off the train for a self‑guided walk along the line, while reserved compartment tickets offer private, comfortable seating for a round‑trip journey. With a blend of history, scenic beauty and festive delights, the Talyllyn Railway provides a unique, family‑friendly experience that appeals to visitors of all ages, from novices to seasoned railfans.
