Strathspey Railway
About
The Strathspey Railway is a celebrated heritage line that offers visitors an authentic steam‑powered journey between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Grantown‑on‑Spey. Following the original Great North of Scotland Railway route, the 11‑mile stretch winds through the Cairngorms National Park, passing remote villages, stone bridges and picturesque lochs. Numerous historic steam locomotives and carriages—many dating from the early 1900s—are preserved and operated by a dedicated volunteer staff. In addition to the regular timetable, special dining‑car tours and themed special events give guests a taste of bygone railway glamour. The on‑site museum displays period tickets, photographs and models, making it a treasured stop for history lovers and families alike.
